Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his staunch support for free speech. The nomination was submitted by Branko Grims, a Slovenian politician, who praised Musk’s efforts to reduce political censorship and promote open dialogue on his platform X (formerly Twitter).
In his nomination, Grims underscored Musk’s unwavering commitment to defending the fundamental human right to freedom of expression. He emphasized that Musk has consistently resisted external pressures to interfere with the free exchange of ideas and opinions, regardless of political or national boundaries. Grims argued that Musk’s actions have made a significant impact on global communication and the protection of democratic values.
This is not the first time Musk has been nominated for the prestigious prize. In February 2024, Norwegian MP Marius Nilsen also put forward Musk’s name, commending his dedication to preserving free speech in an increasingly polarized world.
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually to individuals or organizations that have made remarkable contributions to the promotion of peace. The Norwegian Nobel Committee will review all nominations and announce the laureates later this year.
