The tremor was particularly felt in the coastal city of Antofagasta, situated in the country’s northern expanse. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 104 kilometers (about 64.6 miles) beneath the Earth's surface.
Although the earthquake was substantial, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage. Local authorities are vigilantly observing the aftermath, but the initial assessments suggest limited impact. Video footage circulating on social media showcases the violent shaking of buildings during the quake, providing a glimpse into the tremor's intensity.
