On December 23, 2024, the Bangladeshi government formally approached India with a diplomatic note requesting Sheikh Hasina’s return to face these charges. The request was based on the need for her presence to facilitate legal proceedings. Bangladesh indicated that if India failed to respond within a reasonable period, they would follow up with further reminders.
Despite the formal request, the Indian government has not yet provided a clear response to the diplomatic note. India, however, remains focused on its security priorities, with Jayaswal emphasizing that the country would continue to monitor illegal immigration closely and take necessary action when required.
