❄️ Living in Harsh Conditions
Families in the al-Mawasi camp are struggling with poor living conditions. 🏚️ The area, close to the southern town of Khan Younis, has been designated as a "safe zone" by the Israeli military, but it has suffered constant attacks over the last year. 🔥 Mahmoud al-Faseeh, father of baby Sila, explained that the family has been living in a tent where they sleep on cold sand, exposed to harsh winds and freezing temperatures. 🌬️ He says they don't have enough blankets to keep warm. The temperature had dropped to 9°C (48°F) during the night when his baby, Sila, tragically froze to death.
👶 Medical Struggles
Dr. Ahmed al-Farra, director of the children’s ward at Nasser Hospital, confirmed the deaths of the three babies. 🏥 He explained that the cold inside the tents made the babies' bodies stop working, leading to their deaths from hypothermia. 😞 Dr. al-Farra also pointed out the lack of shelter and warmth, making it difficult to prevent such heart-breaking losses.
🏚️ Overcrowded Refugee Camps & Shortages
The ongoing conflict has displaced nearly 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents. Many have been forced to live in overcrowded tent camps, where they lack basic necessities. 🌍 Aid groups have been struggling to deliver food, blankets, warm clothes, and firewood, which are in desperate shortage. The cold, wet winter is making the situation even worse for those already living in tents. 🌧️
🌍 Calls for International Help
The international community has strongly condemned the situation. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have accused Israel of committing genocide due to the blockade and ongoing attacks. ⚖️ The human cost of the conflict is becoming more devastating by the day.
💔 A Heartbreaking Reminder
The tragic deaths of these babies serve as a painful reminder of the dire need for international assistance to help those suffering in Gaza. 🌍🌱 It's critical to provide enough shelter, warmth, and supplies to prevent more lives from being lost to the cold. 🕊️
