🔥 Students Spark Massive Protests in Serbia After Train Station Roof Collapse Tragedy 🚉💥

🇷🇸 Serbia has been rocked by intense student protests following a tragic incident at a train station. On November 1st, the roof of Novi Sad station collapsed, claiming the lives of 15 people. This devastating event has led to widespread protests, with many accusing government corruption of causing the disaster. 📉💔

On December 22, around 29,000 people gathered in the streets of Belgrade for one of the largest demonstrations in recent history. The protests were led by students, who were joined by farmers, workers, teachers, and ordinary citizens. Together, they raised their voices against the government’s handling of the incident and the alleged corruption that contributed to it. 📣👥

The protest began with 15 minutes of silence to honor the 15 victims of the collapse. This was followed by a loud and powerful half-hour protest, referred to as the “half hour of roar,” where participants made their frustrations heard through intense noise and chants. 🔊✊

Initially, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić dismissed the protests, suggesting that they were being fueled by political opposition. However, after the massive gathering, he offered to open discussions with the protesters to find a resolution. 🗣️🤝

This protest is part of a seven-week-long series of demonstrations in Belgrade. While protests have continued, the December 22nd rally was particularly historic, drawing a crowd of 29,000 people, according to government estimates. In response to the growing unrest, the Serbian government has extended winter holidays for schools and announced plans to engage in talks with the protesters. 🏫🎒
